Bodegas Alion

Alión was created by the Alvarez family, owners of Vega Sicilia, in 1992. Geographically it is nearer to the great fortress town of Penafiel than Vega Sicilia is, and while the heritage is the same, the philosophy of Alión is independent and innovative.

The company makes just one wine, Alión Reserva Tinto. Made exclusively from Tinto Fino (The Duero clone of Tempranillo) the wine bears the character of the region. Aging takes place exclusively in new French wood and the most up-to-date oenological practices and fastidious attention to detail (for people interested in this sort of thing, the cleanliness of the winery is simply astonishing) give a result that is radically different.

Alión is an excellent wine shaped by a standard of quality that knows no bounds, but which bears the mark of the character and personality of the region in which it was born.

Tasting notes: Alion is fermented and rested in stainless steel vats, then matured in new Nevers oak barrels for 13 months, followed by further ageing in bottle until release.

A concentrated, dark and seductive wine whose ripe, fleshy fruit is wrapped in smooth toasty oak. Flavours of cherry, hazlenut and mocha.
