Our selection of wines from Calatayud

Producer: El Escoces Volante
Wine: Dos Dedos de Frente 2009
Region: Calatayud Country: Spain
Grape: Shiraz / Syrah, Viognier
Tasting notes: Dos Dedos de Frente is the latest irreverent release from Norrel Robertson MW of El Escocés Volante. Literally translated as “two fingers of forehead” this Syrah Viognier pokes fun at regulators and seeks to add a little piece of intelligence! Displaying cassis and cigar box, with lifted floral perfume and violets, this wine is singular and perfumed and speaks volumes for the ‘cantos’ from which it hails - full and unctuous with intense black fruit, well integrated oak and a long sumptuous finish.

Producer: El Escoces Volante
Wine: El Puno Garnacha 2007
Region: Calatayud Country: Spain
Grape: Grenache
Tasting notes: The pioneer of California’s “Rhone Ranger” movement Randall Grahm recently chaired the Worldwide Grenache Symposium in the Rhone Valley, France. On tasting 2007 El Puno he said; “'Garnacha from Calatayud thoroughly rocked my world today. So much finesse, elegance. (El Puno is) possibly the greatest Grenache that no one (hardly anyone) has ever tasted.”

Producer: El Escoces Volante
Wine: El Puno Viognier 2009
Region: Calatayud Country: Spain
Grape: Viognier
Tasting notes: Restricted production allowed only 4000 bottles of this exceptional wine to be produced.

Pale straw with an unctuous texture. Pronounced varietal aromas of peach and honeysuckle, well integrated oak character with complex notes of ginger spice and jasmine. Full bodied, yet elegant, with crisp acidity, fresh stone fruits and a long mineral finish.

A real alternative to Condrieu and other great Viognier's of the world!
