Situated between Florence and Siena, the Le Corti estate sits on the edge of the small town of San Casciano in the Chianti Classico district. The Villa has been owned by the Corsini family since 1427 and is surrounded by 250 hectares of farmland. In 1992, the incumbent, Duccio Corsini (whose pastimes prior to this simply included ‘having a good time’!) encountered top winemaker Carlo Ferrini and there began a revolution in the traditional viticultural practices at Le Corti thus enabling the estate to obtain a leading role in the production of world class wines. Duccio sees himself purely as custodian of the estate at Le Corti, never taking more from the land or vines than he could possibly return. This unselfish approach to winemaking will ensure that the progress made will continue for generations to come.
Tasting notes: Don Tommaso is the flagship wine of Le Corti and a blend of only the finest Sangiovese parcels grown on the estate to which a small amount of Merlot is added. The two varieties are separately fermented, then matured for sixteen months in French oak barrels followed by a further six in the bottle. Deep ruby in colour, this is an incredibly refined wine with a full, structured palate and firm tannins that will allow it to age gracefully for 10-15 years. Soft, long and velvety on the finish.
Tasting notes: Le Corti’s Chianti Classico represents a refreshing departure from the substandard basket-clad, Chiantis that prevailed throughout the eighties and nineties. Carlo Ferrini and his winemaking team have created a stylish example of how Chianti Classico should taste when placed in the right hands. The 2005 is produced predominantly from Sangiovese grapes blended with a small percentage of the indigenous Canaiolo to add softeness. This is berry compote of a wine with hints of blueberry, dark raspberry, herb and dark chocolate. The finish is long with fine discreet tannins and very rewarding. Oustanding with a shoulder of lamb or a rib of beef.
Tasting notes: Le Corti also farms 13,000 olive trees which today cover almost 80 hectares of farmland. The olives are hand picked before being milled in the Estate's olive mill. The oil is produced every November and is characterised by its deep green colour, fruity aroma and full, slightly spicy flavour. This is one of the finest oils produced in Tuscany and rarely seen in this country.
