Cote Rotie

Cote Rotie is in the extreme north at Vienne on the right bank of the river. The vines are grown on extremely steep schist slopes. Only red wine is made with Syrah, though up to 20% of white Viognier is allowed in the blend. Vines are grown on two slopes: Cote Brune and Cote Blonde. Wines from the Cote Brune tend to be meaty whilst more delicate from the Cote Blond. Cote Rotie wines can be exceptional, well structured and rich with a delicate fine bouquet of spicy raspberries and violets.
