Sub-region
Cote de Beaune
The Cote de Beaune is more temperate then the Cote de Nuits and is much wider and flatter. The lower plateau has deep soils made up of limestone and clay or shale. This is where the great red appellations are based, such as Pommard and Beaune. To the south of the Cote de Beaune the top white appellations such as Meursault are based on complex soils of limestone and gravel.
