Founded in 1856, and still owned by the Cousino family, Cousino-Macul was the flagbearer for Chilean wines in the 1980s and early '90s. Somewhat overtaken by rapid technical developments and newer wineries in the 90s, the family conducted an intensive 2-year search to for the perfect growing environment in Chile. This culminated in the purchase and development of land near Santiago and massive winery investment.

The vines planted in 1996 are now producing excellent fruit, resulting in Cousino Macul regaining its position at the forefront of Chilean wine and winning accolades once again.
