Friuli - Venezia is the most north eastern wine region of Italy, bordering Austria and Slovenia. The most famous areas are Collio and Colli Orientali del Friuli with up and coming areas such as Friuli Grave coming to prominence. The better wines tend to be Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, but with more interesting wines from local varieties emerging, along with some reds from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Tasting notes: Clean, crisp and easy drinking, this is exactly what Pinot Grigio from Italy is all about. Uncomplicated wine enjoyment and at a superb price.
Tasting notes: Reviewer : Antonio Galloni. The 2007 Vintage Tunina is very pretty in this vintage. An open, inviting bouquet leads to a perfumed, honeyed expression of ripe peaches, apricots, flowers and mint with gorgeous textural richness, depth and elegance. The round, soft finish is quite pretty. Vintage Tunina is a blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit that revolutionized the Italian wine scene in the mid- 1970s and served as the archetype for the blended cuvees that nearly every other producer in Friuli makes today. 91pts RP Anticipated maturity: 2009-2017.
Tasting notes: A well balanced, elegant, fragrant wine showing depth and personality. Fresh notes of apples and exotic fruit evolve to nuances of dried fruits and hay. The palate is full, mellow and round, with a good balance of body and acidity it has immediate appeal. A refreshing, medium bodied dry white.
