Arguably the most significant village in the region, Gevrey Chambertin marks the start of a line of communes producing truly fine Burgundy. Gevrey Chambertin itself produces over two thirds of the Cote de Nuits Grand Crus, 8 in total. The styles of these Grand Crus are extremely varied; the wines of the Chambertin and Clos de Beze vineyards are rich and full bodied while those of Charmes and Mazoyeres are extremely delicate. There are also many fine Premier Cru sites, some such as Clos St Jacques surpassing many of the Grand Crus in quality.
Tasting notes: Elegant, pure and fine red cherry fruit and very complex, sappy flavors that display good structure. Classic Charmes in a feminine style with excellent balance. This is hard not to like. Burghound
Tasting notes: Trace of oak with firm but not hard tannins underpinning the earthy, forward, easy flavors and a finish that displays notes of roasted coffee. Burghound
