Margaret River is Australia's most western wine area. Serious vineyard development started in the late 1960s, following a report published by John Gladstones in 1965 which found that this area had a climate similar to Pomerol and St Emilion. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot thrive here, as well as Chardonnay.
Tasting notes: The fruit for this unique style of wine was biodynamically grown at the Mangan vineyard in Margaret River. The quality of the fruit benefited from an exceptional growing season in 2009.
It was naturally fermented and aged for 12 months in predominantly used French oak to retain fruit freshness.
Drink now to 15 years.
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot
Tasting notes: Rich, plummy fruit flavours define the palate, lifted by the lively mulberry flavours. Soft in style whilst carrying great persistence and power, this wine gained great complexity from 15 months of maturation in French oak.
Tasting notes: Red fruits, licorice and white spices fill the nose. Restrained and elegant, the palate is medium weight and length, with excellent midpalate sweetness and dry rustic tannins to finish.
Tasting notes: The wine opens with lovely tropical fruit & citrus blossom pungency. A little gooseberry aroma from the Sauvignon Blanc component is also evident on this lifted aromatic profile.
The palate is soft, juicy and succulent showing fleshy stone fruit and grape flavours. Fine natural acidity gives this wine a lovely cut of freshness and minerally persistence.
