South England

There are nearly 400 commercial vineyards in England and Wales covering approximately 2000 acres of land in total. Nearly all are in the southern half of England and Wales. Most English and Welsh vineyards are small (less than 5 acres), many very small (less than 1 acre). Only a small number exceed 25 acres and just a handful 50 acres.

Tasting notes: Critics and consumers alike have much enjoyed this vintage which works well both as an aperitif and one to be enjoyed with food. It won critical acclaim at the International Wine & Spirit Competition when first shown in 2008 and narrowly missed winning the trophy for the best sparkling wine in the world.

Producer: Nyetimber
Wine: Nyetimber Premier Cuvee Blanc de Blancs 2003
Region: South Country: England
Grape: Chardonnay
Tasting notes: A lovely bright straw yellow colour with hints of green and a fine bead with delicate mousse.

The nose displays powerful flavours of lemon and baked apple, jasmine, butter and vanilla with hints of caramel and marzipan.

There is a clean fresh green apple entry on the palate quickly followed by classic Chardonnay characters of baked lemon and minerals. The mousse is soft and gives a lovely delicacy to the wine. The long finish is buttery and toasty - a sophisticated and elegant wine.
