Toro, lying within Castile y Leon is a wild and remote area spanning the Duero valley east of Zamora. Tinta de Toro thrives on the local dry, stony soils. It is a local variant of Rioja's Tempranillo which has adapted to the climatic extremes of this part of Spain.
Toro is Spain's fastest expanding region and has attracted the attention not only of many Spanish luminaries such as Vega Sicilia and various Rioja houses, but also international winemakers like the Lurton Brothers with Michel Rolland and Gerard Depardieu with Bernard Magrez.
Tasting notes: 100% Tinto de Toro (Tempranillo) (25-45 years on average)
Fresh dark cherries and violets wrapped around vanilla. Big powerful and long, the Pintia is an extremely seductive wine that will drink for many years.
Tasting notes: The 2007 Pintia was sourced from 50% ungrafted Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) vines and aged in 100% new French and American oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it shows off a compelling bouquet of wood smoke, scorched earth, mineral, incense, blackberry, and licorice. Already complex on the palate, this full-bodied offering is dense, succulent, and structured.
