Described by Clive Coates as ‘the greatest Pinot Noir village on earth’ Vosne Romanee sets extremely high standards for the Cote de Nuits region. It contains a quarter of the Grand Cru vineyards of the area, a further two can be found in Flagey Echezeaux. The wines are expensive but of exceptional quality, delicious, sumptuous, silky and almost decadent in their luxury. The two communes lie next to one another between Nuits Saint George and Vougeot. It suits to list them together as Flagey is made up of the Grand Crus Grands Echezeaux and Echezeaux and anything else is labeled as Vosne Romanee.
Tasting notes: Beaux Monts is often viewed as the vineyard site that 'got away' - that is to say that it often punches well above its weight on a par with many Grand Cru sites. Situated as it is next to Echezeaux one is able to appreciate the true quality of this wine.
Tasting notes: The palate has plenty of tannin, but very much in the Grivot style i.e. quite extracted but not too grainy. Good fruit with reasonable espresso-style length and just right acidity.
