White wines from Burgundy

Producer: Domaine Leflaive
Wine: Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2008
Appellation: Puligny Montrachet
Region: Burgundy Country: France
Grape: Chardonnay
Tasting notes: Pale yellow. Complex aromas of ripe stone fruits and musky flowers, with a hint of more exotic fruits. Considerably bigger and richer than the Bienvenue; in fact, this is quite opulent for the year, offering a wonderfully fine-grained texture. A ripe pineapple quality is leavened by firm acidity. Already explosive on the back end. 92-95

Wine: Corton Charlemagne 2004
Appellation: Aloxe Corton Sub-region: Cote de Beaune
Region: Burgundy Country: France
Grape: Chardonnay
Tasting notes: 93 points Wine Spectator: "A focused beam, this white wraps its lime, mineral, apple and vanilla notes around a core of bracing acidity. Has intensity and balance, yet this is firm and crisp on the finish for now, with real stony length. Best from 2010 through 2030."

Wine: Corton Charlemagne 1995
Appellation: Aloxe Corton Sub-region: Cote de Beaune
Region: Burgundy Country: France
Grape: Chardonnay
Tasting notes: The palate is fat and concentrated showing real complexity and super acidity. The finish is reminiscent of fresh, wild strawberries. This wine will last a very long time - and will be super. (The Burgundy Report 2004)

I was bowled-over by the quality of the 1995 Corton-Charlemagne, it is certainly the finest wine I have tasted from this famous estate. Beguiling aromas of red berries, vanilla, and traces of coconut are followed by a powerful punch of concentrated, extracted, and intense flavors. This gorgeous medium-to-full-bodied wine has a tightly wound "nugget" of red currants, almonds, hazelnuts, pears, and minerals in its silky-textured, extremely well-balanced, and admirably long character. It should be at its peak between 2002 and 2010. Bravo! 93pts RP

Wine: Corton Charlemagne 2006
Appellation: Aloxe Corton Sub-region: Cote de Beaune
Region: Burgundy Country: France
Grape: Chardonnay
Tasting notes: Scents of fresh lime, heliotrope and white peach usher in a subtly-creamy yet persistently bright and juicy display of continued citrus, peach, and inner-mouth floral notes. Airy and elegant, this finishes almost delicately but tenaciously. 93/94 pts RP - WA
