| Wine: Amon Ra Unfiltered Shiraz 2008
|
| Region: Barossa Valley
Country: Australia |
| Grape: Shiraz / Syrah |
Tasting notes: The key to Amon-Ra Shiraz is balancing the extraction rather than maximizing it as the fruit has such expression that they aim to preserve the characteristics of the vineyard rather than dominate them. At release, the 2008 Amon-Ra is more forward and lifted than the 2007. This vintage was all about harnessing the intensity of fruit, and balancing different levels of ripeness.
The Amon-Ra 2008 has captured the intensity of fruit of this vintage, and retains its trademark elegance, finesse and balance. |

|
| Wine: Heinrich 2006
|
| Region: Barossa Valley
Country: Australia |
| Grape: Shiraz / Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre / Mataro |
Tasting notes: The 2006 vintage is a blend of 55% Shiraz, 25% Mataro, and 20% Grenache.
The Heinrich was harvested by hand. The Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache are separately crushed, fermented and aged until final blending and bottling.
Mostly shaven and older French and American oak barriques are used for barrel-ageing, although some new oak was implemented in the ageing of the Shiraz. The wines are left in barrel for approximately eighteen months, and then blended before bottling.
The wine was blended to taste and style, utilising the body and strength of the Shiraz, the ripe confectionary fruit of the Grenache and the fine earthy tannins of century old Mataro. |
